Judge Ben Johnson writes: The artwork takes on a life of its own. It has a heartbeat. Larry Gotkin's Horned Hawk encapsulates this combination in an exciting way. Solidly crafted with an eye for detail, and speaking to a larger concept, this piece elevates the utilitarian axe to a place of fine art, begging us to revise our ideas of what an axe can be.
