Elegant 14" Powderhorn
has turned antler spout and hexagonal spout plug,
carved spiral flutes, a pierced lobe and curly
maple base plug with copper escutcheon, The
plug is secured with copper nails and sealed
with beeswax. The horn is dyed a rich reddish
brown.
The shoulder strap is cotton with handmade copper adjustment buckle and
sinew-sewed ends.
The powder measure is turned antler, hollowed out and dyed to match horn. A
copper cap and eye secure it to a sinew-wrapped leather lace.
The 6 1/2" heavy English-pattern tomahawk head is pierced with a lizard
pattern, pattern-filed and patinaed. The cap is copper and the turned antler
cleanout has a copper head and spring steel pick. The highly-figured curly
maple handle is flute-carved and stained to match the powderhorn. The
fluting is smooth, the tiger pattern in the wood makes it look rippled. The
handle is 18" long and has three pewter bands. The mouthpiece is turned deer
antler as well, and matches the powderhorn spout.
