This short-bladed utility knife is hand-forged to a needle point in tempered spring steel. The beveled edge is hand-polished to a satin finish and the flats are left rough-forged, in the traditional broken back configuration.

The guard is solid 1/4" copper with a hand-filed lightning bolt pattern. The hand-filling grip is solid elk antler, polished smooth and aged, secured with a wood pin, and filed at the butt. The pommel is also formed from 1/4" copper, pinned securely to the antler base.

The mahogany-brown heavy vegetable-tanned leather sheath is wet-molded and hand-stitched, and the stitching and chape are encased with heat-patinaed copper sheet. The sheath is suspended from riveted heavy leather loops, blade up in the traditional manner. The leather is finished with Neatsfoot oil.

The blade is  6.25” long, and the overall length of the knife is 11”.

A Seax (also Hadseax, Sax, Seaxe, Scramaseax and Scramsax), was a type of Germanic single-edged knife and were carried for nearly 600 years. Seax seem to have been used primarily as a tool but may also have been a weapon in extreme situations. They occur in a size range from 3” to 30”. The larger ones (langseax) were probably weapons, the smaller ones (hadseax) tools, intermediate sized ones serving a dual purpose. The seax was worn in a horizontal sheath at the front of the belt. The Saxons may have derived their name from seax, the implement for which they were known.
