Bear Presentation Tomahawk (Commissioned)

Commissioned Work

A very fancy presentation-grade pipe tomahawk, with a great deal of input from the client. The heavy 4140 tool steel head is patterned-filed on blade and bowl and etched with a bear paw print and finished with a dark brown patina.

The bear’s head effigy mouthpiece is carved from ebony. The removable lathe-turned end plug/cleanout pick is ebony as well, with a German silver end cap. The sturdy haft is carved from beautifully figured curly maple, with hand-carved fluting, finger grips and three cast-in–place pewter bands.

The haft is stained dark with a hand-rubbed tung oil finish.

The tomahawk measures 21" from mouthpiece to plug, and the head is 6.5" long.
