Colonial Cherry Wood Powder Flask (Commissioned)

Commissioned Work

The owner requested an early European-style wood powder flask, as might be made and carried by an American Colonial in the 17th century. The flask body is hollowed out and carved from a solid piece of Carolina cherry, the edges trimmed in brass and pinned with brass tacks. The neck is turned from tulip wood, and fitted with a solid brass measuring spout. Handmade brass carrying rings finish the piece. The wood is finished with various stains (to match the neck) and completed with several coats of hand-rubbed tung oil.

The base is 4" wide and 1 1/2" thick, and the overall length is 9".
