Scrimshawed Tansel Powder Horn (Commissioned)

This powder horn was commissioned and is based on the Tansel “Buckskinner’s Horn,” dated 1790, as represented by photos from (see sold listing). The horn is carved in the fish-mouth style, dyed and aged. A turned wooden maple screw tip is color-matched to the horn. The spout has a forged iron strap ring. Five brass tacks secure the flat myrtle base plug. The original horn appears to have both a screw and a twisted iron staple, so both were attached on the new horn.

The scrimshaw was also based on the style and layout of the original horn.

The horn is 16” long and base is 2.5” in diameter. » Learn how this powderhorn was made.
