Wooden Tessen Fan Knife for Sale

Price: $430  (Shipping Included)

This wooden Tessen fan knife is based on the solid iron clubs which were shaped to look like a common, harmless closed fan. Samurai could take these to places where swords or other overt weapons were not allowed.

Instead of solid iron, this wooden Tessen fan knife is composed from a single piece of African Padauk wood, which is further divided into 6 pieces, carved and then reassembled. A 5½'' Kodzuka Knife is concealed inside the “fan” body, and constructed in a similar fashion as a sword.

Bronze mon (Japanese emblems) adorn the top of each side panel, with mosaic metal "rivets" at the bottom. Ivory plates are places at the mouth of the sheath. Side panels and grip are stained natural, while the fan portion is stained red to simulate the fabric, and painted with interrupted calligraphy characters to further enhance the effect. A silk Japanese knife bag is included.

Overall dimensions are 1'' to 1½'' wide x 11½'' long.

Please Note: This is NOT an operable fan.
